All-Wheel-Drive Winter Series 2024 - information

The winter is coming,in northern part of Europe it means snow and slippery road conditions as a result of snowing. What's the best way to have fun in this cold season? Pack out your all-wheel-drive car and go to a lonesome icy road or frozen lake! This is how the original idea of this league has born - take LFS's both all-wheel-drive cars, use modified road sign "Slippery road" as logo, plan a callendar to have a nice variety of racing experience and here we go - it's time for:

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2024

No time to become superstitious - even if it is the 13th season of the RGE's longest running yearly series,13 is just a number like all others and if you are a newcomer to this league - you can become only the 12th different series champion. Last year the 11 years old trend of having a new champion each season was broken by a finnish driver, who made his name into racing history as first ever 2-time AWS drivers champion. As always there are several changes to the schedule as we don't want to be too repetitive, but also classics will be repeated once again. This year's schedule will bring few new records in terms of biggest/smallest,but as always all the cars have one same trait - they are all powered by all 4 wheels!

Having just 7 rounds the schedule has been shortened by a round compared to last year and there is another speciality from 2 previous years that lost itself from this year's schedule - Megawatt Award together with electric cars. This competition will take a break this year as last year both races were the least attended. Round 1 will start with biggest ever value in AWS history - it will feature the heaviest and longest ever car in AWS. The 1.8 ton luxury sedan by CZR will be run in the 600 meters short oval layed out in Westhill's grass area making this a brand new challenge - the Green 100 will feature 100 circles around the short track. Round 2 will also bring a new record - the NewYear City Challenge will have the most powerful car in AWS history! Even if beating previous highest value by mere 7 horsepower, the Adda 200 Ans Tram is still a beast to be tamed in South City's longest standard configuration as it does not feature modern aerodynamics. Round 3 is a return of the lightest car in league - the 600kg buggy will return in Blackwood's rallycross track, running in the standard direction this season unlike last season.

Last year's Rockingham 150 ended into nerve crackling battle for race win - something RGE does not want to take away,so the Fraud Wheeler will return for the 2nd year in row for a 150 kilometer race in Rockingham's oval. Westhill Street Cup is another classic in AWS schedule since introduction of the new Westhill - the support roads around the actual racetrack are simply too atractive to avoid racing there, this year the Central Road Course 2 will return from 6 years ago,run once again with LFS's home grown RB4. Another new record will be set in round 6 - Jamaican Trophy this year will feature the least powerful car! 659cc engine of Chorus Attendanze provides just 63 horsepower, but will still require plenty of skill around the 2 kilometer rallycross circuit. Season finale will be the 13th edition of still unchanged AWS round - Winter 200 is a 200 kilometer race around Kyoto oval with the 490 horsepower FXR,which has a potential to be the most unpredictible race in schedule,so it has the right to return as season finale once again!

After 3 years being run on mondays,AWS returns to sunday for proper weekend's prime time action, starting on 17th december this year and continuing a bi-weekly schedule from the 1st sunday of the year 2024. Even if 2 rounds still allow S2 licence holders to join,S3 is required for other 5,making the highest licence level unavoidable for full competition. Besides the main individual award,3 smaller individual awards are up fro grabs - one for best rookie, one for being best in 3 rallycross rounds and one for being best in 3 oval rounds. As always both teams and nations championships will be available for team or national pride.

Timetable:
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET - race start

Special notes on custom cars:
Some custom cars carry elements in their downloaded package configurations which are not deemed suited for racing in our events (safety car/police lights). Using such are forbidden and in case of breach driver will receive penalty for unsupported equipment. The forbidden configurations are:
* CZLS - Police and Undercover
* FRWE - Cop

Special notes on qualifying:
* In rounds 1; 4 and 7 hotlap qualifying will be used, this means there will be no specific lenght of qualifying session, every driver will run alone and have outlap and 2 hotlaps. Qualifying order will be determined by points standings - the highest ranked driver will start his qualifying run last, lowest - first. In round 1 standings of previous season (also in reversed order) will be used and for drivers not in those - signups order. Race start will be approx. 10 minutes after qualifying.
* If there is no max allowed grid (40 cars),Drivers Championship top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if came late and missed qualification - noone else will be allowed to start without qualifying. In round 1 this top 10 will be taken from last season's final standings.
- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
AWS Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 7 rounds, including attendance bonus points
AWS Cross Challenge Winner - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 3 rounds run in rallycross tracks (rounds 1; 3 and 7)
AWS Oval Trophy Winner - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 3 rounds run in oval tracks (rounds 1; 4 and 7)
AWS Rookie of the Year - awarded to a driver, who hasn't started a single AWS race before this season, with the most points scored through all 7 rounds, including attendance bonus points (award will not be given out if less than 2 rookies have finished at least one race through season)
AWS Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 7 rounds (team will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
AWS Nations Cup Winner - awarded to a nation with the most points scored through all 7 rounds (nation will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, rumble strips or at least defined by paved surface, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track (for example in Kyoto oval on apron) counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of protest.
> Contacts - have to be avoided at all costs! As always when racing open wheel cars (B2AS),that includes also bumpdrafting. With closed wheels cars bumpdrafting is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, pit exit lines will have to be respected! Everyone caught crossing pit exit lines with more than 2 wheels will receive 10 seconds penalty added to finish result. In rounds 4 and 7,which are held in oval tracks also pit entry must be respected - driver have to enter pits on apron before final turn.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Non competing observers may not use chat at all!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection,he will not be allowed to participate.
> Button clutch - is forbidden! Manual clutch is allowed only in combination with axis clutch. Everyone caught using it will be penalized for unsportsmanlike behaviour with increased penalty for every next offence.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, chat misconduct.
> 30s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 1; 4 and 7) - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences or unsportsmanlike behaviour, illegal passing, unsupported equipment.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in round 3 / 2 laps penalty in rounds 1; 4 and 7) - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like affecting damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

With a little extra delay it's time to announce the final results of AWS 2024 season. The 13th season was similar to previous season as once again each round featured different car. Cars ranged in weight between 600 kilograms and the tripple of that, while power had the biggest range in league's history as both lowest and highest values set new records. What did not set any records was attendance - 34 signups is 6 less than last year and lowest number in past 4 years. Also actual competitors count was 6 less than last year - 26,which is the lowest number in past 5 years,3 drivers missed the chance to get points this season. Average attendance also dropped - the 12.5 drivers per race is 1.8 less than last year, the highest attended was round 6 with 17 drivers, while season finale gathered up just 9 drivers.

AWS 2024 Drivers Champion: LLM.Sobis
Last season produced the 1st ever repeated AWS champion, this season repeated the same result with different driver - the 2019 AWS champion Sobis earned his 2nd title. The lithuanian won 3 of the 7 rounds this season, increasing his win count to 5 in total, finishing in top5 in another 2 rounds. His worst finishing position was 7th and he set fastest lap of the race in 2 rounds.

By scoring his 1st ever race win in round 6,Lorenzo made the decisive step towards securing 2nd place in championship, additionally keeping his main title hopes alive, but eventually italian had to settle for 2nd place in final standings, which is 2 positions better than his previous best achieved last season. Also his worst finishing position was 7th and in total he scored 5 top5 finishes, adding 2 pole positions to his stats. Vice champion of last season was around top of the table also this year - 2022 Rookie of the year finished 3rd in standings, which is his average position from both previous seasons. The best finn of the season did not win any races, however he finished on podium in 3 races in row with 2nd place finish in round 5 as his best result, scoring another 2 top5 finishes through the season. The defending champion A.Valta did not sign up this season, leaving the title up for grabs for others.

AWS 2024 Rookie of the Year: S. Martin
It is a bit weird to announce one of the most seasoned racers in various leagues as top rookie, but that's how it works - without previous AWS experience,S.Martin joined the league this season and scored most points between all newcomers of AWS. He finished 7th in overall standings, scoring 2 5th place finishes as best result while he also qualified 4th once. By missing 3 rounds,RD2 lost the season long back and forth shuffle for top rookie position and finished 2nd in standings. The 2023 VERL champion finished in top5 in 3 of his 4 attended rounds, finishing 2nd to his teammate in round 6. Last year's best rookie with backwards spelled name did not sign up for his 2nd try in AWS.

AWS 2024 Cross Challenge winner: LLM.Sobis
The overall champion did pick up also both minor awards - in Cross challenge he beat his main rival by 5 points in final standings, winning one race, finishing 3rd and 4th in other two. The main rival was Lorenzo, who scored his both pole positions and his only win during this competition, however had to settle for runner up position. Also here the defending champion was A.Valta, who did not join this season.

AWS 2024 Oval Trophy winner: LLM.Sobis
Allthough one of the wins was actually gifted, but in history Sobis won 2 of the 3 Oval trophy rounds, finishing strong 3rd in the other one - that secured him the award with 19 points gap over his countryman Trespasser, who finished 2nd in both rounds Sobis won. The defending award winner Thehemuli finished 4th this season, scoring a single podium finish.

AWS 2024 Teams Champions: Race Green Autosports
For the 2nd year in row and 7th overall the hosting team brought home the teams title, this year having the main points scorer in 2nd place in individual standings. Besides the win and 2 pole positions,RGA gathered up a total of 10 top5 finishes. World Class Lions have been around a lot in AWS and this season was a repeat of their best ever performance - 2nd place in teams championship, previously achieved 2016,where they lost out the title just by 5 points. This season they had to "settle" for 2nd place with much bigger gap - 57 points. Their best driver Arska finished 4th in overall standings and he was the one to score all team's 4 top5 finishes. The team of the main champion Last Lap Motorsports finished 3rd in standings due to sole performance of their only active driver.

AWS 2024 Nations Cup winners: Finland
With 41 points gap over main rival the Nations cup was secured by Finland for the 3rd season in row. Finns scored a total of 2 race wins,12 top5 finishes,2 pole positions and 2 fastest laps of the race. The 5-time champions Lithuania got stronger this season and clinched the vice champions title after 1 year of absense and that was achieved by only 2 drivers. Their total tally includes 3 race wins,8 top5 finishes,1 pole position and 4 fastest laps of the race. The last step on nations podium was taken by Italy, which was carried up by sole performance of the series vice-champion Lorenzo.

Race Green Events thanks all participants and wishes much success in all other leagues and events they are taking part. We hope you enjoyed racing in AWS and you all get much fun and valuable experience from the races.
Feel free to use this thread and share your experience through out the series!

Currently there are no specific plans regarding the 2025 AWS season, but it's very likelly we'll shorten the season once again due to under average attendance of this season. Otherwise the format of each round featuring different car will be kept and return of Megawatt award is under question as there are still no proper quality AWD cars with electric propulsion.
In just over 2 weeks RGE will offer the chance to challenge our hardest single race event of the year - the annual Westschleife race this year will be extended to 400 kilometers once again. Full info and signups have been posted last weekend, another announcement regarding the event will follow. This year the event allows to apply other cars, also non competitive ones in spirit of famous Opel Manta, which has been around a certain real world event with similar spirit.
